100 apprentices in 100 days
Apprentices

We have recently been appointed as an Ambassador for the “100 apprentices in 100 days campaign” and have added a further 3 apprenticeship opportunities within our plumbing and horticultural teams.

The campaign which is run by the National Apprenticeship Service, aims to raise awareness of the benefits of apprenticeship with Wyre Forest employers and open opportunities for local people to gain the necessary skills and experience to compete in the jobs market.

The Community Housing Group is fully committed to apprenticeships and since it was established in 2000, we have provided 35 placements for young people within our subsidiary companies, CHG Property Services, Oakleaf Grounds Services and Bespoke Joinery Services.

We are particularly proud of the high number of apprentices who achieve nationally recognised qualifications and successfully obtain permanent employment within the Group after their apprenticeship has ended.

To demonstrate our commitment to apprenticeships, we are using apprentice carpenters, bricklayers, plumbers and electricians alongside experienced teams to work on two new homes in East Street, Kidderminster, which are the first properties to be built by CHG Property Services.

The scheme has been developed in partnership with Wyre Forest District Council who have sold the land to Wyre Forest Community Housing (part of TCHG) and provided grants to enable the provision of these much needed family homes.

Ray Brookes, Group Chief Executive said “ We believe that by investing in apprentices, we are we are investing in the future of our company. We recognise how important it is to provide them with as wide a range of skills and opportunities as possible, so we are very pleased to be able to offer valuable on-site construction experience which will help us build more homes for local people”

Apprentice training and development is provided for the company by group member, Vestia Community Trust.

Marina Banner, Executive Director Vestia and Corporate Services explains

“Vestia promotes apprenticeship schemes as a way of bringing local people into the workplace. It also provides training programmes for TCHG tenants and the wider community in a range of subjects aimed at improving skills to support people into work.

Apprenticeships are a positive investment for any company and an opportunity to support the local economy. We urge other local businesses to consider apprenticeships as a serious and worthwhile option”
